Inventory & ullage optimization

Ullage, the empty space left in a tank, decides what you can receive, when you can blend and how much storage you pay for. We bring tank readings from your storage hubs (Rotterdam, Houston, Singapore or wherever you hold product) into one view, forecast it forward against incoming cargoes and planned liftings, and show the windows that are best for blending and buying.

The problem

Where it hurts today

  • Tank positions arrive as terminal reports in different formats, a day or more old.
  • Feedstock is bought without a clear view of whether there will be room to receive it.
  • Storage is extended or rented at short notice, when it is most expensive.

Data we bring together

  • Tank gauging readings and terminal inventory reports
  • Tank capacities and safe-fill limits
  • Scheduled receipts, transfers and liftings
  • Storage contracts and rates
  • Blending recipes and run plans
  • Market prices for feedstocks and products

How Azico builds it

Four stages, each one usable on its own

01

One inventory picture

Readings from every terminal are standardised into one unit and one timestamp, and every tank is shown against its usable capacity.

02

Forward ullage

Known receipts and liftings are rolled forward day by day, so you can see where each hub will be next week, not just today.

03

Blending windows

The model marks periods when tanks, components and prices line up for a blend, and periods to avoid buying because space is tight or storage costs peak.

04

Early warnings

If a planned receipt would breach a safe-fill limit, or a tank is about to sit empty and costly, the scheduler is told in time to change the plan.

What your team sees

  • +Every tank at every hub, filled to its current level
  • +Projected ullage by hub for the next weeks
  • +Suggested blending windows and purchase timing
  • +Storage cost by hub, with idle capacity highlighted

Questions it answers

  • “Can Rotterdam take the cargo arriving on the 14th?”
  • “When is the next good window to run this blend?”
  • “Are we paying for tanks we do not use?”

What we need from you

  • Recent terminal inventory reports from each hub
  • Tank capacities and operating limits
  • The schedule of planned movements
  • Storage contract terms
